Much a do about nothing

Not much happened last week until Thursday....

Kerri picked Graisi up at the Y and took she and Mallory swimming for the afternoon. Then Mallory stayed with us all weekend! The girls had such a good time putting on talk shows, fashion shows, singing shows, putting make-up on Alli Claire... you name it, they did it.

We went Thursday night to see the new American Girl movie. It was soooo good and exceeded all of my expectations. I would pay to see it again! Kit was from the 1930's and lived during the Great Depression. The girls really got the see the struggles and hard times that families faced then. Afterward, we went to Chik-fil-A. I was getting their orders and confirmed Mallory's 4 piece meal and Graisi's 6 piece meal. Graisi said, "Mom, I'll just have the 4 piece so we can save money." Now how sweet was that!!??

Friday afternoon, Martin took them to see Wall-E. I had NO interest, but the girls seemed to like it just as much as Kit. I'm not sure how?? Then it was off to Paula and Andy's for good food and downtown fireworks. The hamburgers and broccoli salad were to die for!! It is so good to be able to get together and strengthen friendships over food and conversation. I love these types of afternoons. Thank you Andy and Paula for a wonderful evening!! We really enjoyed it as always! Alli Claire had never saw fireworks, especially not the big ones. She sat in mine and Martin's lap pretty much the whole time going, "Wow" and "WO" and "Bang". Her little face was precious. Afterwards, she put on a show back at the house with her Ashy Ashy routine where she jumps up, puts her legs straight out and lands smack dab on her bottom. (I told y'all it was funny and painful at the same time!) We were all ready for bedtime when we got home.

Saturday, we didn't get out of our pj's until around 3pm. I cleaned most of the morning and had the house in order, but you couldn't tell by yesterday afternoon. It's amazing how fast little people can mess a house up! It truly is. We had barbecue for supper from our favorite local restaurant, but Martin was a little disappointed because they didn't have his usual LARGE stuffed baked potato. So he pouted for a little while.... but got over it eventually. He said he would be going tomorrow night to get one regardless! Don't get between a man and his food!

Have I mentioned he's growing a beard?? I've been trying to get him to do it for several years, but he never would until now. I LOVE it and it's red! Now there's no doubt where Alli Claire gets her red hair from in case anyone wondered :o) Pictures to follow.

Yesterday, was church and home for a grilled salmon lunch complete with rice, green beans, corn on the cob and biscuits! Don't even ask... Martin fixed it all and it was delicious! Thanks Honey!! Mallory went home around 6pm and the house was still and quiet. I couldn't' believe one extra child makes that much difference, but it does. Graisi claimed to have NOTHING to do and Alli Claire continued to be her whiny self. No change there. It was a very busy weekend but at the same time, so much fun!

Thursday and Friday of this week we'll spend at Six Flags!!! I'm so excited :o) I'm sure I'll have stories when we get back!

Ashy Ashy

I got another call from school yesterday that Alli Claire had fallen and scraped her her face again. Her teacher said the injuries happened in the same place as last week, but I didn't think they could actually be in the exact spot. But sure enough... she's got two scrapes in the EXACT same places. One on the left side of her forehead and one over the left side of her eyebrow. Who'da thunk? If you could see her legs and knees right now, you'd think we abused this child. She is sooo rough!

She now has a habit of playing "Ashy Ashy". That's Alli Claire verbiage for Ring Around the Roses. Except she has to have her Aqua Doodle mat in order to walk around it and I have to sing the song. At the very end where "we all fall down", she jumps up with her legs straight out and lands smack dab on her bottom. It's the most painful looking thing you've ever seen. We cringe every time we see it but it's still funny! She just cracks us up all the time....

A trauma has occured

(Sallie, only you can appreciate the true drama/trauma of the situation)

Saturday night our next door neighbor, LaShae, rang our doorbell. She wanted to know where our bird nest was because she thought one of our birds had fallen out. I explained that our birds had been gone for about a week and Martin removed the nest earlier that day. She said there was a baby bird hopping around the cul-de-sac and thought it was ours. We put the little hatchling in a Huggies box (because that's pretty much all we have these days :o) and fed it a mushed up meat stick and some sweet potato puree. He LOVED it! They kept it in the garage that night and took it to the local wildlife refuge yesterday morning. They checked him out and said he was ok, but couldn't keep it because he wasn't hurt. They told them it wasn't uncommon for Mockingbirds to nudge their babies out of the nest and leave them on the ground and that he would fly in a few days. The experts assured them that the parents would come by and feed him if they put him under a bush or other shrubbery. Have I mentioned that Josh and LaShae have a big dog named Wilber? He'll come into this story shortly, just hang on. So they took Birdie back home and were resolved to take him in at night to keep the animals away. Have I also mentioned that baby birds don't sit still and like to hop? Hang on, that's coming next. So Graisi and Mallory were mothering this little creature all afternoon to make sure he was ok. But they went to play and Wilber decided to investigate the new arrival that had hopped into the side yard. Next thing we knew, two little girls were in tears (sobbing) and SCREAMING that Wilber had the bird in his mouth.... It wasn't pretty y'all. Josh removed the bird from the big dog mouth, but he didn't make it past chomp #2. As I held Graisi crying uncontrollably, Martin tried to give her some comfort by telling her that the baby didn't suffer and was killed instantly. To which Graisi replied with, "NO Daddy, he was still chirping in his mouth!" That's when Kerri lost it and proceeded to tear up. I told her she had to hold it together. We had a situation to take care of!

Then Martin left for Bible study and left me at home with a traumatized 8 year old! I sat in her room for 20 minutes trying to give her a reason for this happening and hoping she wouldn't feel guilty for not doing more. I mean we went from the food chain to sometimes bad things happen. She said she tried to holler for Daddy but he wouldn't listen and they tried to clap and scream at Wilber, but he wouldn't let it go. They were afraid to help the bird because they were afraid Wilber would bite them (my baby's got instincts!). Then she told me about how she hated Wilber and how she hated all outside mean animals including cats that ate poor defenseless little animals. But then I had to explain that Wilber wasn't bad, he just did a bad thing.... like her. She isn't a mean person, but sometime she does mean stuff. That still didn't make her feel better. She said it wasn't the same.... Then the Holy Spirit intervened! I explained that God's plan is perfect even though we don't understand or like it and it's not always fun. That everything works for His glory. I told her that God allowed her to see the little bird get eaten to make her a better person. I told her that it would make her more compassionate and make her a better veterinarian or animal rescuer. It was a miracle!! She had a peace, stopped crying and was ok after that. When she said her prayers, she said, "God, thank you for letting me know that your plan is perfect even though we don't understand." In the words of a child.

Following in Mommy's footsteps :o)

I forgot to tell you that Tuesday we got Graisi's acceptance letter into the gifted program at school!! We are so proud and excited for her. I remember when I was in there (YES I was a gifted child!) I had so much fun and was challenged outside of worksheets and books. Mrs. Scott is still one of my all-time, most favorite teachers!! She is going to have so much fun and I look forward to many fun stories coming home from school.

After I told her and she finished whopping and hollering in the shower she asked, "But, Mommy, what will I be doing in there?". She was so funny! We also told her that this was something to be very proud of but shouldn't be bragged about.

I just wanted to share with my blog readers the new excitement that's going on with Graisi.

Alli Claire is just hanging on for the ride!

It was a God thing

Yesterday, Kerri and I took Mallory and Graisi to a Fancy Nancy Soiree (or Fah-sway by Graisi's pronunciation) at a local toy store. The girls had a really good time dressing up with their boas, necklaces, bracelets, hats and fancy dresses. They made a felt purse, read stories and had a lemonade tea party. But the God part happened after it was all over with and we were standing around getting ready to leave....

A pretty blond girl came up to me and wanted to know if my name was Shelli and if I went to a particular church. I said, Yes, to both. At this point she told me about how I'd prayed for her six years ago and how I'd (God) helped her not have the abortion she'd decided to have because her amnio came back positive for Trisomy 18. I didn't recognize her as I'd known her but I remembered vividly praying for her and the baby every day for weeks. She was Graisi's 2yr old preschool teacher!! Her name is Brandy. She said after she left the preschool, the lab determined that amnio results were a false-positive!! I had shared Grant's story and how if I'd have known his problems, I wouldn't have traded that time for anything! And still would have continued the pregnancy. Each life has a purpose. We may not understand it or it may be painful, but God knows the plan for each one of us no matter how small or broken. Anyway, she went on to tell me about a car accident that happened about 3 years ago in front of our church. I did remember and had actually requested prayer in our Sunday School class for the people involved. Little did I know, she was involved in that accident... She was D.O.A. and was in a coma for 10 days. She'd shattered every bone in her face (which was why I didn't recognize her to begin with) and is on 8 medications a day. But she's alive and a mom!!! I just stood there and praised God for the miracles He performed in her life. I praised Him for answering my prayers and for blessing this family. And get this... the accident was a head-on collision and the little girl, Isabella, was in the back seat. Her only injury was a bump on her forehead where a sippy cup had popped up and hit her (get out of town!). That's it. The Lord has wonderful things in store for this mother and daughter! God is so good and I praise him daily for the gifts in my life and the lives of my family. What a wonderful gift I got yesterday :o) She said before all of this happened she was very hesitant to share her testimony, but now she shares with anyone and everyone. He is the Great Physician! Ya'll it was awesome!

Attack of the geese

Graisi is off to a water park today and was very excited. When I dropped her off, I mentioned that they may want to seat her at the front of the bus. She tends to get car sick and today could be one of those days. I really hope she has a good time and has plenty to say when she gets home.

She's also started art classes this week. It's only for a week but she was very chatty after her first lesson last night. She made a vase so when people come over I can put flowers in it. That's what she told me :o) I asked her if she put a handle on it and she acted as if that was the silliest question ever asked. She said, "Mama. If I put a handle on it, it wouldn't be a vase anymore.... it would be a pitcher!" Duh! Alli Claire and I passed the time on the playground until it was time to pick her up. When we got ready to leave there were about 200 geese out at the pond. So we stopped and got out. I just prayed I didn't have to kick a goose, cuz I would if I had to. I just wouldn't be pretty. They behaved and Alli Claire refused to let me put her down. She liked looking at them, but freaked out anytime one attempted to come near us.

That's all for today. Have a good Tuesday!

My week stunk it up!

So I lied... well not really. I real.y did try to do better, but then LaDonna (here at work) decided to take off for a week and sail the open seas to Cancun. So all of last week I worked her work and mine. And can you believe the nerve! She didn't even bring me back a souvenir! I was so glad she came back today, because I'm afraid I would have to had to called in sick tomorrow!!

Last week was pretty much a blur. Graisi's week at summer camp ended much better than it started. The little girl who was mean to her decided to be her friend by Wednesday. And the little boy didn't come back. So all is well at the YMCA summer camp homefront. She spent the weekend with Daddy and Nancy. From what I hear, there was lots of movie watching, airplane crashing and a incident with a chair breaking and Daddy falling into the lake with only Graisi to rescue him. Now I wish I could have been a fly!

Alli Claire decided to take a tumble down the drive way Friday afternoon and scraped the left side of her face up pretty bad. She screamed for 20 minutes and started again once Martin got home. But she was fine, it just looked terrible.

Martin played golf Saturday while I got the house ready to show. Unfortunatly the people called and canceled the appointment. I WASN'T happy! So for the rest of the day me and AC played outside under the carport. Aunt Bev even stopped by and brought fruit! It was nice to sit out and chit chat like the old days when people would just stop by and visit.

So because of the really crappy week I had, when Martin got home, I informed him that he would be taking me and AC out to dinner. Only to add to my crappiness, did I get a horrific headache right before we left. After 2 extra strength Tylenol and a Davocet it went away. Leave it to Outback ranch to make the sun shine again. I ate to my hearts delight!! I may have lost 10 pounds, but I think I found 5 of it again Saturday :o)

But to end a really bad week on a really good note, we had the homecoming concert for our high school chior Chi Alpha last night. It was awesome!! Cotton candy, snow cones, inflatables, wonderful music, worship, a message and dinner. It couldn't have ended any better!
